‘Forecast’ weather update for July 25

Weekly weather update for professional turf managers from Frank Rossi:

Temp & GDD

An above normal week for much of the region. Warmest along the I-95 corridor 4-6 F  above. Southern Tier, Hudson Valley 2-4 F above and widespread heat stress as evening temps remained very high for the week. GDD within a week of last year and normal. Soil temp lurching into the low 80’s F at 2” depth along I-95, upper to mid 70’s inland and still upper 60’s in much of Upstate New York.

Moisture

Very few moisture “winners” last week as dry conditions persisted for most last week as <0.25” was recorded for much of the region. A few heavy swaths of 2-3” plus in NH, MA and SNJ. ET levels remain at record high levels with most losing about 0.2-0.3” per day and as much 1.3” for the week.

Forecast

Following a weekend in and out of the heat with mild cold fronts moving through ahead of some strong storms. Expect heat and humidity to be extremely high after a very low humidity stretch over the weekend. Expect temps to be as much as 12 above normal and heat stress most intense along I-95. Not much relief expected from the heat in the 8-14d.
